Guide to spending half a day in the Central area of Victoria Harbour

If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet.

Victoria Harbour – a worldwide well-known harbour that is renowned for its night views, is certainly an attraction that should not be missed when visiting Hong Kong. As a natural channel between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon in one of the world’s busiest commercial ports, the area is also packed with attractions and entertainment which are nowhere close to mundane. Read on to find out how you can spend a half-day in the Central area.

Hong Kong Observation Wheel

One of the best spots to view the Victoria Harbour from Hong Kong Island would unequivocally be the Hong Kong Observation Wheel. Adjacent to the Central Ferry Pier, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel is a 60-meter tall landmark where passengers can overlook the stunning skyline of Tsim Sha Tsui and Hong Kong Island, from different perspectives. If you have children with you or you simply want to relive your good old bygone days, why not go for a ride on the beautifully hand-painted carousel next to the Wheel? Here, you can easily spend an hour or two enjoying the view while taking in the cool ocean breeze. You can book your tickets online to save time.

Address: 33 Man Kwong Street, Central

Opening Hours: 11:00am – 11:00pm (last boarding time at 10:30)

Hong Kong Maritime Museum

Just a minute walk from the Wheel, there is the Hong Kong Maritime Museum – where maritime history and heritage tracing back to the British colonial era are stored. Not only will you get to know the history of the port, but also interesting facts such as what weapons sea bandits of the past use, different music that has been inspired by the sounds of the sea and has a go at the Ship Bridge simulator which will make you feel you’re actually steering a boat out on the oceans. After visiting the museum, you can always go sip on some coffee or tea or grab a light lunch at Café 8 which is located on the rooftop of the museum A social enterprise that employs people with learning disabilities, Café 8 is undeniably a cosy space to take a break, getting you prepared for the rest of the day.

Address: Central Pier No. 8, Hong Kong

Opening Hours: Monday-Friday 09:30-17:30, Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays 10:00-19:00

Star Ferry

After spending some time on the Central side of Victoria Harbour, you might want to visit the other side of the harbour, Tsim Sha Tsui, which is also one of the bustling hubs in Hong Kong. Instead of taking buses or metro, you may consider joining the many other locals commuting across the harbour on the Star Ferry. Not only is the ferry fare uber-affordable, but the scenery along the journey is also out of this world, especially when the weather is nice and cool. Again, the pier is next to the Wheel and the Maritime Museum which is very easy to find.
